As part of Apple’s Spring-themed product refresh, you can now get your iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 mini in a striking new purple color finish that’s guaranteed to turn heads.

The new colorway was unveiled as part of the announcements made at Apple’s “Spring Loaded” special event held earlier today. According to the official press release found on the Apple website, this new color option “beautifully accentuates the flat aluminum edges of the iPhone 12, which are perfectly color-matched to the precision-milled back glass.”

iPhone 12 goes purple

Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, was quoted in the press release as saying that the new purple finish arrives “just in time for spring,” adding “another bright and fun option to the lineup.” Keep in mind that this new purple option is unavailable for the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max.

The purple models have the same features as other models in the iPhone 12 lineup.

MagSafe accessories to complement purple iPhone 12

Speaking of which, the company has also updated its MagSafe-branded case, wallet and sleeve accessories with new colors to complement the new purple iPhones:

• Apple MagSafe Silicone Case in Capri Blue, Pistachio, Cantaloupe or Amethyst

Purple iPhones come ship with iOS 14.5

Both the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini ship with Apple’s upcoming iOS 14.5 software preinstalled. iOS 14.5 and other updates will publicly release for everyone sometime next week.

Aside from the ability to unlock your iPhone with an Apple Watch while wearing a face mask, iOS 14.5 also brings other improvements and new capabilities, including an enhanced Podcasts app with the redesigned show/episode pages and a Search tab, as well as new emoji. Siri no longer has a default voice and now comes with more diverse voice options in English.

Pricing and availability

The new purple option for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini is not available immediately.

Apple has said that these purple-colored handsets will be available for pre-order to customers in China, Japan, the UK, the US and more than 30 other countries and regions beginning at 5am PDT on Friday, April 23, with retail availability beginning Friday, April 30.

When the purple model launches, the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini will have come in the following six finishes: blue, green, black, white, (PRODUCT)RED and the all-new purple.

The new colors for MagSafe cases and wallets are available to order beginning today.
