According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the next iPhone to be released later this year will improve photography quality by utilizing “high-end” lens arrays in the rear camera.

Premium camera lenses

Writing in a research note published Friday, a copy off which was seen by MacRumors, the reliable Apple analyst said that supplier Largan will produce these premium camera lenses for the iPhone 12 models. Largan should start shipping the parts to Apple from mid-July due to delayed iPhone production in the second half of this year over the coronavirus epidemic.

Kuo doesn’t specify what kind of ‘high end’ lens will be used in the ‌iPhone 12‌, but in a previous note claimed that the 6.7-inch ‌model will feature multiple rear camera improvements, including larger sensors that capture more light for better image quality.

The devices should be unveiled in September, but may not arrive until October or November.

Premium cameras

A report iDB recently ran, based on findings by serial smartphone leaker Max Weinbach who runs the YouTube channel EverythingApplePro, suggests that high-end models of the next iPhone may upgrade 4K video recording with a new 240 frames per second (FPS) option versus prior models which feature 4K video capture at 30 or 60 FPS.

In the video embedded above, Weinbach says the iPhone 12 will be “the first and last model” with a seven-piece plastic element lens— Apple is supposedly already working on eight-part plastic element lenses for upcoming iPhone models in 2021 and beyond (the more lenses, the higher optical clarity and less distortion on various objects in your photographs).

Barclays analysts say Apple might stop bundling a charger in the iPhone 12 box, but they were wrong before so take their claim with a grain of salt — another rumor floating around has it that the iPhone 12 may ship with a more powerful 20W charger in the box.

Apple is thought to ship four new smartphone models later this year, all outfitted with OLED panels: the lower-end 5.4 and 6.1-inch models should sport dual-lens cameras while the high-end 6.7 and 6.1-inch phones are said to be equipped with triple-lens cameras.

I’m still rocking an iPhone XS Max. My wireless contract is set to expire in a few months and I think I’ll be picking up an iPhone 12 Pro Max this year (I passed on the iPhone 11 due to the uncertainties in 2020), if those tantalizing rumors about the souped-up camera prove true.
