Yes, according to Apple the iPhone 12 is rated to survive in water up to 6 meters deep, for up to 30 minutes. But if you plan on spending longer than that in deeper water, or doing things like taking underwater photos, you’ll want a waterproof case. These are typically hard plastic cases that form an air-tight seal around your handset. The ports and buttons are blocked, obviously, and the screen is either covered or a tight seal is made around its edges to prevent water ingress.
